Lecture 2 – Formulae of Ionic Compounds

Forming Formulae of Ionic Compounds:

For learning the formation of molecular formulae of compounds; Consider the following example:

Cation = A+X
Anion = B-Y

A+X + B-Y = AYBX
Molecular formula is given by = AYBX

If X = Y then = AB

The compound formed is electrically neutral, with charge 0. It consists of positively and negatively charged ions.
